Description:
The 4-component gear ratio is a frequent source of error on engine odometer meters of various models. The affected drives are installed worldwide in many vehicles of European, Japanese and American brands. Including motorcycles from BMW.

The drive consists of 4 gears:
- The driving gear E1 is identical for all and has 12 teeth (for VDO and motometer)
- gear wheel MM2 (double gear wheel) in 4 variants (MM2, MM2c, MM2d, MM2e)
- gear wheel MM3 (double gearwheel) in 6 variants (MM3, MM3b, MM3c, MM3d, MM3e, MM3f)
- Gear wheel MM4 (double gear wheel) in 5 variants (MM4, MM4b, MM4c, MM4e, MM4f)

The tooth numbers are assigned to the designations below:
MM2 = 44x16 teeth
MM2c = 44x17 teeth
MM2d = 43x16 teeth
MM2e = 43x17 teeth

MM3 = 40x22 teeth
MM3b = 40x28 teeth
MM3c = 38x23 teeth
MM3d = 38x28 teeth
MM3e = 39x28 teeth
MM3f = 40x34 teeth

MM4 = 35x22
MM4b = 28x22
MM4c = 33x26
MM4e = 28x22 (star-shaped teeth, original part is brown/beige)
MM4f = 23x22 teeth

Notes:
We have a variety of speedometer gears for motometers, VDO and other speedometers and instruments in our range. Unfortunately, the exact combination (vehicle model to gear variant) cannot be determined for every model, but we have separate offers in the store for the known and most common combinations.
Buying a used speedometer may save the repair, but there is a risk that the gearwheel will break in the near future.
In particular, storage times and cold temperatures cause additional damage to the gears. You also keep your original mileage with the repair!
If you have disassembled the speedometer, we also recommend replacing the bulbs. These lose performance noticeably over the years. They are available from every car dealership and accessories store.

If you disassemble the speedometer in advance, please note that the shaft of the speedometer needle is very sensitive. Grip the speedometer needle in the center and turn it counterclockwise. Pull gently. Friction is all that keeps the needle on the shaft.
